On the actual bank holiday Jared and I went to
Anyway, it was quite dreary looking day so we thought it would be a good day to spend the majority of inside looking around the palace. Luckily, we could see some of the cool formal gardens from inside and it did clear up enough for us to conquer the maze! Good fun :-)
The best part in my opinion was the kitchens, where they had people dressed up in period costume cooking actual things that they would’ve cooked in those days. Before you went into the kitchen you saw a scale model of what it would have been like and how many people they had to feed. Amazing! The guys cooking the food were obviously only to happy to share some of their knowledge and we probably could’ve stood there all day just listening to them but we kept moving so we could see as much as we could in the day. There was a guy turning a huge joint of meat in front of a fire and Clare had a quick go. She said it was really hot and she just couldn’t stay there any longer! Especially since we’d just come in from the rain and were still wearing our jackets.
